The opening scene
До 1917 года Россия ввозила много готовых часов и часовых деталей из других стран. В стране были умелые часовщики, но большой современной часовой промышленности не было.
После революции новое советское государство хотело производить важные товары внутри страны. Часы были нужны железным дорогам, заводам, армии, авиации, науке и обычным людям. Точное время становилось важной частью современной жизни.
Before 1917, Russia imported many complete watches and watch parts from other countries. There were skilled watchmakers in the country, but there was no large modern watch industry.
After the Revolution, the new Soviet state wanted to make important products inside the country. Watches were needed by railways, factories, the army, aviation, science, and ordinary people. Accurate time was becoming an important part of modern life.
