What's New in ReadMir: Release Notes

Full release notes for ReadMir: every new feature, improvement and fix in the Russian reading app, for both the web app and the Android app, newest first.

2.0.4 — 11 October 2026

  • New: Make your own avatar. Pick a character, a background and a pet from a growing cast, drag and size each one to get the scene just right, give it a name and choose the colour of your profile card. You'll find the builder via the "Create your avatar" card on the home page or the top-right menu. Before you've made one, that card invites you to build your first avatar, and you can dismiss it with the X if it isn't for you.
  • New: Your avatar appears in the top-right corner of every page and on your profile card on the home page, with your rank and words learned attached beneath it.
  • New: Share your profile card. On the website, download the image or post straight to X, Facebook or Threads: the post's preview shows your own card rather than the generic site image, and Instagram gets your caption copied to the clipboard for you. In the app, one tap hands the ready-made card image to your phone's share sheet, so it can be posted anywhere.
  • New: More backgrounds, characters and pets unlock as you rank up (three or four per rank from level 2 upwards), and the rank-up pop-up now shows you exactly which new items you've just unlocked.
  • New: A new "Stress style" option in the reading settings puts the stress on story words: bold letters (the default), the stress mark, or both.
  • New: Four more reading fonts have joined the reading settings: JetBrains Mono, Great Vibes, Handjet and Alegreya SC. The picker now offers eight styles.
  • New: A new "Grammar" chip beside the reading settings opens a quick reference to the six cases: what each one is for, the question words and an example, plus a "See grammar tables" shortcut through to the guide's compact reference.
  • New: Every story card in the library now has a small options menu (the "…" button): see the story's helper primer, add all of the story's unknown words to your learning list in one go, or reset that story's progress. Adding words is limited to once a day per story.
  • New: Added a "New here?" card to the home page, shown until you dismiss it with the X. It points new readers at the how-to-use guide, and at the Cyrillic alphabet page if you're new to the script.
  • New: Finished stories can now be started again straight from their library card, with a "Start Again" button under the progress bar.
  • Improved: A visual refresh across the app: warmer cards, softer shadows and cleaner surfaces everywhere, plus a tidier home page: Focus mode and your daily goal now sit side by side, and the explore grid always fills its rows.
  • Improved: How far through a story you are now reads as the furthest scene you have ever reached. If you go back to re-read earlier scenes, the library can no longer show you as less far through than you've already been.

2.0.3 — 7 October 2026

  • New: The app now supports Kazakh, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Finnish, Armenian, Portuguese, Romanian, Greek and Hebrew. Please note that these locales may have some errors. Please let us know via the bug report page if you encounter any and we'll review the translation.
  • Fixed: Fixed some translation gaps in existing non-English locales, especially with words that did have dictionary definition listings but didn't have a translation on the vocab page.
  • Fixed: Fixed some issues where non-English locales were serving up Russian example sentences with English translations in some of the practice modes.
  • Fixed: Fixed some more display issues with varying length translations on some of the UI elements.

2.0.2 — 4 October 2026

  • New: Enabled microphone audio input option on Android for challenges that request the user to enter Russian text.
  • Improved: Quicker audio playback for device text-to-speech during challenge rounds and practice modes.
  • Improved: Sentence builder challenges now include related (but not correct) words to choose from to increase challenge difficulty.
  • Improved: Various fixes across multiple locales to text labels where on some screens text content was being truncated without a way to see the full value.
  • Improved: Improved localisation for Persian / Farsi locale.
  • Improved: Design updates on practice mode screens to bring certain screens up to date with the new colour theming.
  • Fixed: Fixed missing audio on some story challenges.
  • Fixed: Fixed visual bugs on the Dracula mode page and practice hub review summary.
  • Fixed: Changing your language now updates translated content straight away on the Vocab page and other screens where the issue was present.
  • Fixed: (Web) Fixed an issue where scrolling past a setting could change it by accident. The reading settings, review dials and other settings menus now only change when you click them.

2.0.1 — 3 October 2026

  • Fixed: Multiple fixes to address post-migration issues from v2.0.0.

2.0.0 — 2 October 2026

  • New: ReadMir is now available in eleven more languages - Spanish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Georgian, Japanese, Uzbek, Arabic and Persian. You can switch using the new language picker on the home page or from the top-right menu. Arabic and Persian are shown right-to-left as you'd expect.
  • New: It's not just the menus that have been translated. Story translations, word meanings, challenge questions, story titles and descriptions, the beginner story primers and the cast of characters will all follow whichever language you've picked, rather than only being available in English.
  • New: The grammar guide, the alphabet page, the cheat-sheet PDFs and our legal pages have also been translated into all eleven new languages.
  • New: Added a phrase book with 401 everyday phrases across 23 topics (greetings, eating out, directions, emergencies, and so on). Every phrase has audio, a transliteration and its meaning in your language, and some come with a short note on when to use them. You can search the whole book and filter between formal (вы) and informal (ты) versions.
  • New: Phrases you save from the phrase book are added to your 'Sentences' page, so you can practise them alongside the phrases you've saved from stories.
  • New: Added a 'Typing Challenge' practice mode. Type Russian sentences in Cyrillic as fast as you can and get scored in words per minute. You can either copy the Russian or translate from your own language, play with no limits, a set number of sentences or against the clock, and choose whether the sentences come from the stories, example sentences or your own saved sentences list.
  • New: Added a focus mode. Write yourself a study schedule of timed blocks and a small timer will follow you around the app, counting each block down and moving you on to the next one. You can drag the timer anywhere on screen if it's in the way.
  • New: The Dracula progressive immersion mode now contains the whole novel - all 27 chapters, up from 9. That's just over 900 pages, and all of the new vocab has been added to the vocabulary page.
  • New: The dictionary pop-up has had a major overhaul. As well as the existing definitions it can now show definitions in your own language, synonyms, example sentences, and declension or conjugation tables for many more words than before. Every word form in the tables has its own audio button.
  • New: The 'In real sentences' examples on the vocab page and in cloze practice can now be shown with translations in your own language where one is available (they'll fall back to English where it isn't).
  • New: Added a review overview to the practice hub. It shows how many words you have due now, coming up, new and known, a chart of the next two weeks of reviews, and a list of your due and upcoming words which can be sorted by date or by difficulty. There's a summary of the same numbers on the stats page too.
  • New: Words in stories can now be underlined according to your progress - amber for words you're learning and green for words you know. This is switched on by default and can be turned off in the reading settings.

1.4.4 — 13 September 2026

  • Fixed: Fixed a bug where sentences could display incorrectly at certain text sizes in the Dracula progressive immersion mode when the grammatical case overlay was enabled.
  • Fixed: Fixed some crashes in the pre-release iOS version related to settings sliders and text size changes.
